Description:
The purpose of “ Is it Complete?” is to encourage interaction among
students while encouraging and promoting individual thought the use of complete
sentences. Students (individually, in pairs, or as a group) are asked to
respond to a particular question, and they must answer in complete sentences.
After the question is asked, the teacher allows some quiet thinking time. A
sentence frame should be visible for ELs who need the extra support; visual
aids and posted vocabulary related to the content concepts will help students
think of sentences. Once students have produced a complete sentence they should
put their thumbs together and hold them up to signal to the teacher that they
are finished. The sentences can then be shared with partners, small groups, and
eventually the entire class.
